Not today? Pick the day.

Most people mean to have this conversation and never do. Asked any single day, the answer is always “not today.” So skip that question. Choose the day now, put it on your own calendar, and let the day ask for you.

Dan Ariely, who studies why people put things off, made the same point about the end of life: ask one day at a time and no day is ever right; ask the long question and the answer is plain.

From his End of Life: Lesson 8, October 2026.

1. Pick a day

2. Who you will sit with

The person who would speak for you if you could not. Optional. It goes only into the calendar file on your phone.

3. Put it on your calendar

You get a calendar file with a reminder the day before. Your phone opens it in its own calendar. It holds a link back to the cards, so on the day you tap once and start.

On the day

Sit side by side with one phone. The first card takes a few minutes, the whole thing about 20. Nothing has to be typed. See the cards now.

Nothing on this page is sent anywhere or saved. The calendar file is made on your phone. If you would rather not wait, start now.
