Terms & Privacy
Last updated 29 September 2026. Written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version. Your answers stay on your device. We don't receive them or store them, and we don't sell anything. CareGoals has no accounts and nothing to buy. It is a planning tool, not a medical provider, and nothing here is medical or legal advice.
1. What CareGoals is
CareGoals helps you write down what you would want if you couldn't speak for yourself: what matters to you, who speaks for you, the care you'd want, and what you want your family to know. It turns your answers into a Care Wishes document you can print or share.
CareGoals is not a medical provider, a legal service, or an emergency service. A Care Wishes document is a personal values document. It is not a medical order, and on its own it is not a legal advance directive; to make your wishes legally official, use your state's own form. In a medical emergency, call 911. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.
2. What stays on your device
- Your answers. Your answers save as you tap, in your browser's own storage on this device. They are not sent to us or to anyone else.
- Your Care Wishes document. Your browser builds it from those answers.
- Erasing. “Erase my answers from this device” on the questions page, or “Erase these answers from this device” on your document, removes them. Clearing this site's data in your browser does too. On a shared or public computer, erase them when you're done.
3. What leaves your device
A link you choose to share
When you share or copy your link, your document is encoded, not encrypted, into the part of the address after the # sign. Browsers don't send that part to a website's server, and the document page loads no analytics that read it, so we don't receive it. Anyone who has the link can read the document, so share it only with people you trust. The QR code on your wallet card is the same kind of link, holding your name, who speaks for you, and your treatment and CPR choices.
Simple counts, never your answers
- Usage counts. Our pages record events such as a page view, how far through the cards someone got, whether they finished, how many questions had an answer, whether it was for themselves or someone they love, which next-step link was clicked, and whether the visit packet was printed or copied, a yearly reminder was added, or waiting-room cards were printed. Each is tied to a random code that lasts only while that browser tab is open. None of them include what you wrote. These go to solvinghealth.com. Since October 20, 2026, no IP address or browser type is stored with an event. Like any website, the hosting services may keep short-lived server logs of each web request.
- Page analytics. A cookie-free page counter from harnesshealth.ai records the page path, the site that referred you, any campaign tags in the address, how far you scrolled, and clicks to our sister sites. It doesn't set a cookie or read your answers.
- Server logs. Like every website, our hosting keeps standard request logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
Fonts and a code library
Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, and the document page loads a QR-code library from jsDelivr. As with any web request, those services see your IP address.
4. What we never do
- We do not sell information. Not to advertisers, data brokers, insurers, or employers.
- We do not show ads or use advertising trackers.
- We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number. Any first name you choose to add stays on your device with your answers.
5. Who we share with
- People you choose. Whoever you send your link to, or hand a printed copy.
- Service providers that run the site: Google Firebase (hosting), harnesshealth.ai (the page counter), and solvinghealth.com (the usage counts).
- When legally required — a valid subpoena, court order, or where necessary to prevent serious harm. We hold no copy of your answers to hand over.
6. A note about HIPAA
CareGoals doesn't receive your answers, and it isn't acting as your healthcare provider or their business associate, so HIPAA doesn't govern what you write here. We tell you this because the difference is real, not because it lowers what we owe you: the protection is that your answers never reach us.
7. Your choices
- Erase your answers from your device at any time (section 2).
- Skip anything. Every question is optional.
- Block the counts. A content blocker or your browser's privacy settings can stop the page analytics, and CareGoals still works.
- Ask. The counts aren't tied to your identity, so we usually can't find records that are yours, but ask and we will tell you what we can.
Colorado residents have rights under the Colorado Privacy Act, and residents of other states may have comparable rights. Ask and we will honor them regardless of where you live.
8. Security, honestly stated
The site is served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Your answers live in your browser, so their safety depends on who can use your device. A shared link is encoded, not encrypted: anyone who has it can read the document. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise.
9. Retention
We keep no copy of your answers. Usage counts and server logs contain none of your answers; they are kept to understand how the site is used and to keep it secure.
10. Children
CareGoals is for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. A parent or guardian may of course write down wishes with or for a person they care for.
11. Terms of use
- Use CareGoals lawfully, and only to record wishes you have a right to record: your own, or someone else's with their permission.
- What you write is yours, and it stays on your device.
- The service is provided as-is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the prior twelve months.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or anything that cannot be limited by law.
- These terms are governed by Colorado law.
12. Changes
If we make a material change to this page, we will update the date above. There are no accounts, so we can't notify you directly; continuing to use CareGoals after a change means you accept it.
13. SolvingHealth's policy
CareGoals is one of the products covered by SolvingHealth's privacy policy. That policy is written for the company's products as a group and describes things CareGoals doesn't do, such as accounts and an AI assistant that reads your answers. For CareGoals, this page is the accurate description of what happens to your information.
14. Contact
Questions, requests, or complaints about privacy: use the contact form at solvinghealth.com. We answer.
CareGoals is operated in Boulder, Colorado. It is a planning tool: it does not provide medical care, medical or legal advice, or insurance, and it is not a substitute for a conversation with a clinician. In crisis, call or text 988. In a medical emergency, call 911.
