Messages for later
Some things are easier to say once, on your own, than to say face to face. Record a short message for someone you love, keep it on your phone, and give it when the time is right.
On his last day, the man Dan Ariely was with recorded short videos for his family, telling them his death was peaceful and full of love. The night before, he said what let him go easily was that nothing was left undone.
From Ariely’s End of Life: Lesson 11 and Lesson 10, October and November 2026.
1. Choose what to say
Tap one. You can record more than one, one at a time.
2. Record it
Pick a line above, or just begin.
Your phone will ask to use the microphone (and the camera, for video). The recording stays on this phone.
3. Listen, then keep it
This browser can’t record here. Use your phone’s own Voice Memos or camera app instead, with the lines above. It works just as well.
Keeping it, and giving it
Name the file for the person it is for, and keep it with your Care Wishes papers. Tell the person who would speak for you that it exists and where it is. You choose when it is given: now, on a birthday, or later.
Writing your wishes down is a different job, and the cards do it: start the cards. Their last card asks what you want the people you love to hear.
Nothing on this page is sent anywhere or saved by CareGoals. The recording is made in your browser and only leaves it when you save it to your phone.
